Five weeks in, you should now be having a few pregnancy symptoms. Your baby is about the size of an orange seed, and his tiny heart and circulatory system are developing, while your hormones are flaring up making your mood and emotions go up and down. It’s only natural because a significant life change is on your way!
How Your Baby Is Growing
At 5 weeks, your baby now
resembles a tadpole and is about the size of an orange seed. He is 5 mm long
and weighs about 0.04oz. During this week, your baby’s tiny heart will start
beating for the first time. Neither you nor the doctor can hear it, but it can
be seen moving in an ultrasound.
As your baby is busy growing, the embryo now
has three distinct layers which are the endoderm, ectoderm, and mesoderm. The
ectoderm will form the nervous system, eyes, ears and the connective tissues.
The endoderm which is the inner layer will grow into internal organs like the
lungs, intestines, and bladder. In the meantime, the placenta and umbilical
cord are performing the job of the endoderm, while the mesoderm will be responsible
for forming the heart and circulatory system. Above 5 weeks pregnant, the
mesoderm will evolve to develop your baby’s bones, kidney, muscles, and his
reproductive organs.
Your Body At 5 Weeks Pregnant
The signs of early pregnancy
should have kicked in by now, but some women with irregular menstrual cycles
might still be in the dark as to what is causing the tiredness, nausea, frequent
urination and tender boobs. It’s going to get better soon enough, so hang on
there!
If you know you are pregnant,
anxiety and worry might begin to set in about how your pregnancy is
progressing, and this will lead to constant mood swings. Always relax and eat
healthy meals. But if you are noticing any spotting or bleeding, you need to
see a doctor right away as that may be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy or
miscarriage.
It is advisable to do regular
exercise as this could reduce stress and aches during pregnancy. Exercise also
helps your body prepare for the physical rigors of labor. Choose a safe and
moderately rigorous activity you take pleasure in. Walking and swimming are nice
choices for pregnant women.
Learning About Having a Healthy Pregnancy
The first few months of
pregnancy mean a lot to your baby. Taking some important steps when you are 5
weeks pregnant can help secure your health and that of your unborn child.
Stop Drinking Alcohol: Alcohol
reduces the weight of your baby and raises the risk of problems with learning,
attention span, speech, and hyperactivity. You never can tell the harm a glass
of alcohol can do to your baby, so it is better to avoid it altogether.
Eat Healthily:
At this early stage of pregnancy, eating a healthy and balanced diet is
important. You can consult your doctor on the kinds of food and supplements
that can help you have a healthy pregnancy.
Ensure Your Home And Job Is Safe: At 5 weeks pregnant, this could be the time to
look into your job and hobbies. Some jobs and hobbies pose a threat to your
developing baby. If your job demands being exposed to some harmful chemicals, heavy
metals, and radiations, you need to make changes as soon as possible
Always remember that cleaning
products, pesticides, lead in drinking water and solvents can be harmful to
your baby’s health. Ask your doctor how your daily routine can be adjusted to
avoid hazards at home and in your workplace.
